What's in a name?
Well, since it's time to get back in the saddle and make some more music I guess I'll have to make a decision on what to call all this mess. This is exactly the kind of thing that's my least favorite part of making music. It's my understanding that smart people carefully prioritize brand identity and SEO into their marketing plans for releasing music but I never claimed to be smart.
It's the sort of thing that can make or break you I'm told. They have a point... would Led Zepplin have been as successful if they were called The Marshmallow Dingleberries? Probably not. These things matter... just ask Oingo Boingo.
The problem is I don't really have much interest in making one kind of music. Sure I
could call the project Sonic Lobotomy but how does that jibe with the ukelele songs? I could name it something wistful like Doubt but that doesn't cover all the styles either. Outcrowd? Undertow? The Rolling Beatles?

I thought about it a bit, but in the end the more I thought about it the less I thought of it.
Here Goes...
So the name of my new project will be....drumroll... Mik Collins. Très original.
I guess I could claim it's my way of no longer hiding anonymously behind aliases like Motive or Steeze Kings (both great names) but the truth is probably that I'm just too lazy these days to put any effort into this sort of thing.
And, in that same spirit of foundational laziness, here's the new logo for social media and the web:

If it's gonna be Mik Collins then why not have the logo just be my face? I mean, at least a stylized version of my face that doesn't scare the cat. A good friend of mine, Steve Swenson, once told me he liked my beard because it distracted from my face. Fair point.
So… here we go. Name? Check.
Logo? Check.
New music? Get comfortable…
